OUR HISTORY...
Harvest GeoGraphics began as an effort by its parent company, Harvest Capital Company (HCC) to
streamline its mapping process. Harvest Capital places long-term real estate loans on
agricultural real estate throughout the Western States. As part of the underwriting, HCC
analysts created detailed maps of each property, including land use breakdowns, irrigation
systems, water rights, pasture boundaries, etc. This process of hand coloring and highlighting
key features of USGS Quad Maps was a time-consuming, labor-intensive process, so HCC started
their search for a better way to communicate the needed information.
During the summer of 1999, the timing became right for Harvest Capital to make its first
investment in GIS hardware, software, and personnel. Over the next year, it became apparent
that there were other agricultural applications where this technology could be utilized.
At that point the decision was made to make further investments in personnel and equipment,
and Harvest GeoGraphics was formed. |
